The SPA LAB bridges the Environmental Studies Program, Department of Geography and Institute of Ecology & Evolution at the University of Oregon.
We engage in interdisciplinary research that builds resilience in social and ecological systems to improve human well-being and environmental stability.
Our goal is to advance biophysical and biogeochemical knowledge of soil-plant-atmosphere interactions to better understand how terrestrial ecosystems function as a step towards building a sustainable future.
Our projects focus on solutions for the challenges of land degradation and climate change impacts on natural and human-engineered ecosystems.
Our students conduct data-intensive research, combining field observations, laboratory experiments, and modeling tools to better use and conserve land, air, and water resources.
